Rev. Fr. Gigi Mathew Vakathanam belongs to the Pullukattu branch of the Vallikkattu family of Vakathanam, Kerala — formed through study in Kottayam and a clear call to priestly ministry.
Rev. Fr. Gigi Mathew Vakathanam is the son of the late P. V. Mathew and Sosamma, of the Pullukattu branch of the Vallikkattu family in Vakathanam, Kerala. He has one elder brother, Reji Mathew.
His path from village schooling to university study in Kerala, and then to theological formation at the Old Seminary, reflects the Malankara Orthodox pattern of a well-rounded priest — grounded in culture, scripture, and the life of the Church.
Education
He completed his school education at M.D. U.P. School and Jerusalem Mount School, Vakathanam.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Baselius College, Kottayam, followed by a Master’s degree in Malayalam from the University of Kerala.
Theological formation
Answering God’s call to ministry, Fr. Gigi pursued his theological education at the Old Seminary, Kottayam, and obtained a Bachelor of Divinity (B.D.) degree from Serampore University.
Family
Fr. Gigi Mathew is married to Susan, and they are blessed with a son, Abel M. Gigi.
Fr. Gigi continues to serve the Church with dedication, faith, and a commitment to spiritual growth and community building.
